Eurytion
Argonaut and skilled hunter who later participated in the Calydonian Boar Hunt
The Legend of Eurytion
Eurytion was a Greek hero who sailed with the Argonauts and was known for his skill in hunting and combat. The name Eurytion appears in several mythological contexts, including a Centaur whose misbehaviour at a wedding sparked the Centauromachy. The Argonaut Eurytion was a mortal hero, son of Irus and Demonassa, who came from Phthia. He joined Jason's crew and proved himself a capable member of the expedition. After the Argonaut voyage, Eurytion participated in the famous Calydonian Boar Hunt, the great expedition organised by Meleager to slay the enormous boar that Artemis had sent to ravage Calydon. During that hunt, Eurytion was accidentally killed by Peleus, who threw his spear at the boar but struck his companion instead. Peleus was exiled for this accidental killing.
