The Legend of Thalpius

Thalpius was the son of Eurytus and one of four co-commanders who led the Epeian forces from Elis to the Trojan War.‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌ The Epeians sent forty ships to Troy, divided among Thalpius, Amphimachus, Diores, and Polyxeinus. This shared command structure was unusual in Homer's catalogue and reflected the political divisions within Elis, where no single ruler held supreme power. Thalpius led his division of the Epeian warriors through the long years of the siege. The Epeians were a significant military force in the Peloponnese, descendants of the hero Epeius, and their contribution to the war effort demonstrated the breadth of the Greek alliance. Thalpius served competently if not spectacularly, fighting in the battles without achieving the individual glory of the more famous heroes.
