Amphimachus
Greek commander from Elis who sailed to Troy and was killed by Hector
The Legend of Amphimachus
Amphimachus was the son of Cteatus, one of the Moliones or Actoridae, and he co-led the forces from Elis alongside three other captains in the Greek expedition against Troy. Though not among the most celebrated warriors, he represented the broad alliance that Agamemnon assembled. He wore gold ornaments into battle, adorning himself like a young woman — a detail Homer used to highlight the vanity that war could not cure. He fell in combat against Hector during the fierce fighting around the Greek ships, and his armour became a prize contested between the two sides.
