Schedius
Commander of the Phocian contingent at Troy who was killed by Hector during the great battles
The Legend of Schedius
Schedius was the son of Iphitus and the leader of the Phocian forces that sailed to Troy. He co-commanded the Phocian contingent alongside Epistrophus, bringing forty ships from Phocis to join the Greek alliance. The Phocians were fierce warriors from the mountainous region of central Greece, and Schedius led them with distinction during the long siege. He fought bravely in the battles before Troy's walls, engaging Trojan champions in combat. Schedius was eventually killed by Hector, the greatest of the Trojan warriors, who struck him down during the fierce fighting near the Greek ships. His death was a significant blow to the Phocian contingent, which lost one of its two leaders. The struggle over his body and armour formed one of the many bitter contests that punctuated the war.
