Ialmenus
Son of Ares who co-commanded the Orchomenian contingent at Troy with his brother Ascalaphus
The Legend of Ialmenus
Ialmenus was the son of the war god Ares and Astyoche, making him a demigod with divine martial heritage. Together with his brother Ascalaphus, he commanded the forces from Orchomenus and Aspledon, bringing thirty ships to the Greek expedition against Troy. As sons of Ares, both brothers were formidable warriors, and their divine parentage gave them special standing among the Greek commanders. Ialmenus fought throughout the siege of Troy, contributing to the major battles. His brother Ascalaphus was killed during the fighting, and Ares himself was furious when he learned of his son's death, nearly disrupting Zeus's plans by rushing to the battlefield before Athena restrained him. Ialmenus survived the war and returned home, though some traditions say he was blown off course and settled elsewhere.
