The Legend of Phalerus

Phalerus was an Athenian hero who sailed with the Argonauts on the quest for the Golden Fleece.‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌ He was the son of Alcon and represented the city of Athens in the great expedition. The ancient port of Phaleron, which served as Athens's harbour before the construction of Piraeus, was said to have been named after him. Phalerus was a skilled sailor and warrior who contributed to the crew's success during the long voyage to Colchis and back. His participation in the Argonaut expedition was a source of pride for the Athenians, who were eager to claim representation among the greatest heroes of the age. Though not among the most prominent Argonauts in the surviving accounts, Phalerus held an important place in Athenian local tradition and legend.
