The Legend of Deipyrus

Deipyrus was a Greek warrior who fought in the Trojan War as part of the massive expedition against Troy.‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌ He appears in Homer's Iliad during the intense fighting that took place when the Trojans, led by Hector, broke through the Greek defensive wall and attacked the ships. Deipyrus fought bravely among his companions but was killed by Helenus, the Trojan prince and seer, who struck him during the close-quarters combat near the Greek camp. His death is one of many that Homer records during this critical phase of the battle, when the Greeks faced their greatest peril and nearly lost their fleet. Deipyrus's sacrifice illustrates the heavy price paid by the rank-and-file Greek warriors throughout the long campaign.
