Antenor

Trojan elder and counsellor who advocated returning Helen to Menelaus and ending the war.‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍

The Legend of Antenor

He was the only Trojan leader who tried to prevent the war — and the Greeks spared him for it.‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍ While Priam and Hector chose to fight, Antenor counselled peace with Menelaus and Odysseus. When Troy fell, Agamemnon ordered his house marked with a leopard skin so soldiers would pass it by. Ancient sources say he then sailed west and founded Patavium (Padua) in Italy, making him a mirror of Aeneas. Some later writers accused him of outright treason, claiming he helped the Greeks smuggle in the Trojan Horse. His legacy sits at the uncomfortable intersection of wisdom and betrayal.
