Polydamas
Trojan nobleman and wise counsellor to Hector during the war
The Legend of Polydamas
Polydamas was a Trojan warrior born on the same night as Hector. Where Hector excelled in combat, Polydamas was renowned for his prudent counsel and ability to read omens. He repeatedly urged Hector to adopt cautious strategies, advising retreat behind Troy's walls rather than camping on the plain before the Greek ships. Hector often ignored this advice, with disastrous consequences. Polydamas correctly interpreted a bird omen warning against attacking the Greek fortifications, but Hector dismissed him with scorn.
