The Legend of Alector

Alector was an Argive nobleman whose lineage intersected with several major mythological events.‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍ He was the father of Iphis, who advised Polynices to use the necklace of Harmonia to bribe Eriphyle into forcing her husband Amphiaraus to join the doomed expedition against Thebes. In some genealogies, Alector was also connected to the line of Pelops and the ruling families of the Peloponnese. His descendants appeared on both sides of the great conflicts that defined the heroic age. Though Alector himself performed no single great deed, his family connections place him at a crucial junction in the web of mythological genealogy that links the Theban and Trojan war cycles together.
