The Legend of Meges

Meges was the son of Phyleus and led forty black ships from Dulichium and the Echinean islands to fight at Troy.‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍ His father Phyleus had quarrelled with his own father Augeas and emigrated to Dulichium, so Meges inherited the island kingdom. In the Iliad, Meges proved himself a capable fighter, killing several Trojan warriors and allies. He was wounded by Dolops but saved by Menelaus. He wore a corselet that had once belonged to his father, a symbolic continuity of the family's martial tradition. After the war, he was among those driven off course during the troubled Greek homecomings.
