Ennomos
Mysian commander and augur who led his people to Troy despite reading his own doom in the omens
The Legend of Ennomos
Ennomos was a leader of the Mysians and a practised augur, skilled in reading the will of the gods through the flight of birds. He brought his Mysian contingent to fight as allies of Troy, co-commanding them alongside Chromis. Despite his gifts of prophecy, his birds could not save him from his fate. Homer specifically notes that Ennomos's skill in augury did not protect him from death, as he was destined to fall at the hands of Achilles in the river battle. When Achilles rampaged through the Trojan forces and drove them into the Scamander river, Ennomos was among those cut down in the water. His story carries the tragic irony of a prophet who could read the future but could not escape it.
