The Legend of Agapenor

Agapenor was the son of Ancaeus and king of Tegea in Arcadia.‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍ Since the Arcadians were a landlocked people with no naval tradition, Agamemnon himself provided them with ships for the voyage to Troy. Agapenor led sixty vessels carrying Arcadian warriors. After the fall of Troy, his fleet was scattered by storms, and he was driven to the shores of Cyprus. Rather than attempting the journey home, he settled there and founded the city of Paphos, where he established a famous temple to Aphrodite. His story reflects the many post-war wanderings that reshaped the Greek world.
