Kebriones
Illegitimate son of Priam who served as Hector's charioteer and died in a fierce struggle over his body
The Legend of Kebriones
Kebriones was an illegitimate son of King Priam who served as the charioteer for his half-brother Hector, the greatest Trojan warrior. He was a skilled driver who kept Hector's chariot in the thick of the fighting throughout the war. During the battle where Patroclus wore Achilles' armour and drove the Trojans back, Kebriones drove Hector's chariot to meet the threat. Patroclus hurled a jagged stone that struck Kebriones in the forehead, shattering his brow and sending his eyes into the dust. He tumbled from the chariot like a diver. A ferocious struggle then erupted over his body between the Greeks and Trojans, with both sides fighting through an entire day. Dust and weapons flew as they battled over the fallen charioteer until evening.
