The Legend of Cleitus

Cleitus was a young Trojan warrior who served as an attendant or squire during the Trojan War.‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍ In Homer's Iliad, he appears during the battle scenes as one of the many fighters who met their end in the brutal combat before Troy's walls. Cleitus was killed by Teucer, the great Greek archer and half-brother of Ajax, who shot him down with one of his deadly arrows. His death is recounted among the many casualties that Homer lists to portray the relentless violence of the war. The name Cleitus, meaning famous or renowned, was common in the Greek world and appears in several mythological contexts. His brief appearance and swift death represent the fate of countless young men consumed by the war.
