Aeson
heroAeson was Jason's aged father whom Medea rejuvenated through sorcery — cutting his throat, draining his blood, and filling him with a magical potion.
The Myth
Aeson was rightful king of Iolcus, deposed by his half-brother Pelias. He lived to see Jason return with the Golden Fleece. Medea offered to rejuvenate him: she slit his throat, drained his aged blood, and replaced it with a potion of herbs, roots, and moonlight. Aeson rose as a young man. Medea then tricked Pelias's daughters into trying the same ritual on their father — but gave them plain water instead of the potion. They murdered Pelias.

Fun Fact
Medea's rejuvenation of Aeson is one of the earliest descriptions of what we might now call a blood transfusion — horrifying but effective.
