The Myth of Calirrhoe

Calirrhoe — "beautiful flow" — was a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys who appears in multiple mythological traditions.‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌ In Hesiod's Theogony she became the wife of Chrysaor, the being who sprang from Medusa's severed neck, and bore the three-bodied giant Geryon whom Heracles later slew as one of his labours. A famous spring near Athens bore her name, the Enneakrounos or nine-spouted fountain, where Athenian brides traditionally drew water before their weddings. This sacred spring connected the cosmic Oceanid to the everyday ritual life of the city's inhabitants across centuries.
