God of the Forge

💭 conceptΘεός τοῦ Σιδήρου
Forge, metallurgy, sculpture, artisans

Hephaestus presides over the forge, shaping divine metals into objects of unmatched power and beauty‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌.

The Meaning of God of the Forge

Hephaestus established his workshop inside volcanoes, where the Cyclopes served as his assistants, hammering bronze and iron on massive anvils.‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌ He forged the thrones of every Olympian, each customized: Hera's was rigged with invisible chains that bound her when she sat, punishing her for casting him out. Only when Dionysus got Hephaestus drunk and brought him back to Olympus on a mule did the smith agree to release his mother. Among his greatest works were the bronze giant Talos, the armour of Achilles with its shield depicting the entire world, Helios's chariot, and Pandora herself, whom he moulded from clay at Zeus's command. Every Greek city had a forge-shrine where smiths poured libations before lighting their furnaces.
