Hephaestus

godSmithἭφαιστος
God of forge, fire, and craftsmanship

Hephaestus was the divine smith who forged Achilles' shield, Harmonia's necklace, Pandora herself, a‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌nd the chains that bound Prometheus — the only Olympian who worked.

The Myth of Hephaestus

Hephaestus was the only physically imperfect Olympian — lame from birth, thrown from Olympus by Hera (or Zeus) and raised by sea nymphs in an underwater cave.‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌ He built his great forge beneath Mount Etna (where Typhon lay imprisoned) and created astonishing works: self-moving tripods, golden serving maidens (the first robots), Achilles' immortal armour, Hermes' winged sandals, Athena's aegis, Zeus's thunderbolts, and the bronze giant Talos who guarded Crete. When Aphrodite, his wife, took Ares as a lover, Hephaestus trapped them in an unbreakable golden net and summoned the gods of Olympus to witness their shame. Despite his lameness, he was indispensable — the craftsman without whom the gods could not function.
