Arion

Arion was a legendary poet and musician whose life was saved by a dolphin when pirates forced him to jump overboard.
The Legend of Arion
The finest singer in Greece, Arion of Methymna was returning from a contest in Sicily when the ship's crew plotted to steal his prize money. Apollo inspired him to sing one final song before leaping overboard. A dolphin, drawn by his music, carried him safely to shore at Corinth. When the sailors arrived, the tyrant Periander confronted them with Arion alive. The tale links Hermes, patron of travellers, and Poseidon, lord of the sea, to the protective power of art — a theme shared with Orpheus's enchantment of nature itself.
