Lycaon of Troy
Trojan prince captured and later killed by Achilles beside the river Scamander
The Legend of Lycaon of Troy
Lycaon was one of Priam's many sons, born to the concubine Laothoe. Achilles first captured him during a night raid on his father's orchards, where the young prince was cutting fig-tree shoots. He was sold as a slave to Lemnos but eventually ransomed and returned to Troy. Just twelve days after his return, he encountered Achilles again at the river Scamander. Unarmed and desperate, Lycaon grasped Achilles' knees and begged for mercy, reminding him of the bread they had shared. Achilles, consumed by grief and rage over Patroclus' death, refused and killed him, casting his body into the river.
