Horae
Goddesses of the seasons and natural order, daughters of Zeus and Themis, who guarded the gates of Olympus.
The Myth of Horae
The Horae were the daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Themis, and they governed both the agricultural seasons and the moral order of civilized life. Hesiod named three: Eunomia (lawfulness), Dike (justice), and Eirene (peace). In later tradition they were expanded to four seasons and associated with annual agricultural cycles — sowing, growing, harvest, and winter. The Horae guarded the gates of Olympus, rolling back the clouds to allow gods to pass. They also tended to Aphrodite after her birth, robing and adorning her. Their role bridged natural time and moral time — the idea that good harvests and good governance belong to the same cosmic principle.
