The Meaning of Goddess of Love

Aphrodite was born from the sea foam that gathered around the severed flesh of Ouranos after Kronos cast it into the ocean.‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ She rose from the waves near Cyprus, stepped ashore on a shell, and the Horai dressed her in gold. Zeus married her to Hephaestus to prevent the gods from warring over her beauty, but she carried on a passionate affair with Ares. Hephaestus trapped the lovers in an unbreakable golden net and displayed them before the Olympians, who laughed rather than condemned. Aphrodite sparked the Trojan War by promising Helen to Paris in exchange for the golden apple. She also aided lovers like Hippomenes, giving him three golden apples to distract Atalanta during their footrace, winning him a bride.
