The Meaning of Goddess of Justice

Themis was a Titaness who became one of Zeus's earliest consorts and his most trusted adviser.‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌ She sat beside his throne and whispered counsel about the proper order of things. She presided over the assembly of gods and established the rules of hospitality, sacrifice, and oath-keeping that governed both divine and mortal society. She bore the Horai (Seasons) — Eunomia (Good Order), Dike (Justice), and Eirene (Peace) — and the Moirai (Fates). Before Apollo claimed Delphi, Themis held the oracle there, dispensing prophecies rooted in natural law rather than personal whim. Her daughter Dike walked among mortals during the Golden Age but fled to the stars during the Iron Age, becoming the constellation Virgo. Themis herself became the symbol of courts and legal systems worldwide.
