Goddess of Dawn

💭 conceptΘεά τῆς Αὐγῆς
Dawn, morning light, renewal

Eos opens the gates of heaven each morning, spreading her rosy fingers across the sky to herald the ‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍sun.

The Meaning of Goddess of Dawn

Eos, the rosy-fingered dawn, was a Titaness who rose each morning from her bed at the edge of the world-river Oceanus.‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍ She yoked her horses, Lampus and Phaethon, to her saffron-coloured chariot and rode ahead of her brother Helios, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold. Aphrodite cursed her with an insatiable desire for mortal men after catching her with Ares. Eos abducted several handsome youths, including Cephalus and Tithonus. She begged Zeus to grant Tithonus immortality, but forgot to ask for eternal youth. Tithonus aged endlessly — his skin shrivelling, his body shrinking — until he could only chirp feebly. In pity, Eos transformed him into a cicada. Each morning her tears for her lost lover fall as dew upon the grass.
